Northland Capital Markets analyst Tim Savageaux upgraded Ciena Corp (NYSE:CIEN) from Market Perform to Outperform and raised the price target from $450 to $500, citing indications of a larger than expected market for scale-out solutions evident in recent reports and comments from Lumentum (LITE) and Cisco (CSCO).
Strong supplier results from Lumentum along with plans to increase critical pump laser capacity by 4x in coming quarters also contributed to the rating change. The analyst also cited a pullback in the shares from highs over $600 as supporting the upgrade decision.
